THE CHALLENGE

The Gulf Coast is experiencing widespread expansions in the petrochemical industry and is facing the retirement of over half of its current workforce.  As a result, LyondellBasell has trouble filling roles with skilled employees.

THE SOLUTION

With the support of LyondellBasell, San Jacinto College is building the Center for Petrochemical, Energy, and Technology (CPET). LyondellBasell employees also work with SJC employees to recruit students.

THE OUTCOME

  • SJC named as a Top 5 U.S. Community College
  • SJC enrollment has increased by 47% since its founding
  • SJC graduation has increased by 67% since its founding
  • Increased success in LyondellBasell and the petrochemical industry
