The mission of the "I Have a Dream" program is to motivate and empower children from low-income communities to reach their education and career goals by providing a long-term intervention program of mentoring, tutoring, and cultural enrichment. Upon graduation from high school, each Dreamer is eligible to receive a last-dollar, four-year tuition-assistance scholarship for college or vocational school. Its Onwards and Upwards program provides work-based learning services to enhance student motivation and academic achievement, increase personal and social competence related to work, and to provide career exploration and planning. Tours of workplaces, job shadowing, career mentoring and paid internships are offered and college preparation includes academic counseling, college visits, ACT/SAT preparation, assistance with college admission forms, and a weekend college camp held at the University of Colorado.

In 2013, Intertech Plastics Inc. (Intertech) acquired Image Moldings and began molding complex disposable medical devices. As Intertech already played an important role in Colorado’s advanced manufacturing sector, the company was now faced with significant challenges in securing a skilled workforce that could lead the company forward.

To address their workforce needs, Intertech partnered with the Colorado I Have a Dream Foundation’s (CIHAD) Work is Success Internship Program to access a pipeline of young adults to fill their paid summer internship roles.
