THE CHALLENGE

In 2017, 3M is hoping to hire 12,000 employees in STEM-related fields. However, identifying and hiring diverse and qualified workers in STEM, manufacturing and production careers is a challenge for businesses nationwide.

THE SOLUTION

Through the company’s new holistic approach, 3M is able to provide school-based initiatives, employment training opportunities, STEM awareness-raising programs, and funding for STEM education.  The leading program, STEP, provides local high school students from St. Paul, Minnesota job skills and valuable insights into working in STEM careers.  The Young Scientist Challenge also engages youth in the STEM field by challenging participants to develop a solution to a technological problem that impacts everyday life.
